BAKLAVA - Dexie Dunham
SYRUP
1-1/2cupssugar
3/4cupwater
3whole cloves
1tbsplemon juice
NUT MIXTURE
4cupsfinely chopped walnuts
4tbspcinnamon
1/2cupsugar
PHILLO LEAVES
1lbunsalted clarified butter, softened
1pkgphillo leaves
SYRUP-Bring sugar, water, and cloves to a boil, simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, add lemon juice. Set aside.

NUT MIXTURE-Combine ingredients and set aside.

PHILLO LEAVES-Grease 9x13 pan with butter. Open phyllo leaves and cover with moist cloth to keep from drying. Butter both sides of one leaf and place on bottom of pan. Place 10 more on top buttering the top of each. Top with 1/2 of nut mixture.

Butter both sides of the next leaf, then add 6 leaves buttering the top of each. Top with the remaining nuts.

Butter both sides of next leaf, and add the remaining leaves buttering the top of each. Cut into triangles.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. Remove cloves from the syrup and pour over all. Let stand several hours or overnight.
